Speeches, we all dread making them, however, you may not even have to.
Not all couples choose to have speeches and if they do have speeches then the Maid of Honour may not even be expected to speak, they may just choose a family member, you really won’t know until it is discussed.
If you are giving a speach then as the brides best friend, you need to make the speech memorable.
- Begin early. Start writing the speech as soon as you can and practice it often so you become familiar with public speaking.
- Try it out on family and friends to gauge their reactions and see if anything needs to be changed.
- The speech should be short but sweet and can include movies or songs that remind you of the bride and groom.
- Ideally around 5 minutes long is good for a speech. The last thing you want to do is bore your audience with a long speech.
- Introduce yourself at the beginning.
- Relate any funny stories or anecdotes that involve the bride and groom.
- Mention how gorgeous the bride is and how much she means to you.
- Never include inside jokes that won’t be understood, and especially don’t mention any ex-boyfriends.
- Mention the groom, even if you don’t know him well or even like him (he is your friends choice, not yours). You can say how happy he makes the bride.
- As you’re ending your speech mention the couple. Use any cute pics you may have or relay any lovely stories of them as a couple.
End your speech with a toast to the bride and groom.
Most of all, practice, practice and practice and be confident when speaking.
