Adelaide is known as the “City of Churches”, not due to the number of places of worship but the number of denominations.

A ceremony in a place of worship is a personal choice. Some places of worship service more than one denomination.

You can also take comfort in knowing that you are undercover during any weather and seating is provided for all your guests and there is usually ample parking and also disabled parking, so everyone shall be comfortable and there will be a lot of space for guests to mingle before and after the service.

Your entrance can be grand or subtle and your wedding transport will have no problems in delivering you to the door.

The architecture, again, grand or subtle, can also be used to great effect by a professional photographer, or videographer.

St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral is right in the centre of the City of Adelaide.

The Cathedral is dedicated to the great 16th century Spanish Jesuit missionary saint who is also patron of the Church in Australia and patron of our first bishop Francis Murphy (1844-58). Initial construction began in 1851 and there has been various phases of activity leading to the installation of the tower in 1996.

Building of the Cathedral began in 1851, making it the oldest cathedral in Australia.

The tower was not completed until 1996 – 145 years almost to the day after workers had dug the first sod for the beginning of work on the Cathedral site.

The Cathedral is usually a busy place with several daily Masses, Rosary and confessions as well as weddings, baptisms and funerals.

It is both a Cathedral and a parish church, so there are usually many diocesan and parish events held here.

The foundation stone for the Queen of Angels church was laid by Archbishop Spence on July 4, 1915. The site had been purchased in 1882. The parish was founded in 1881 and incorporated Thebarton, Glenelg, Marion and Blackwood. The church has recently been renovated.

Queen of Angels serves the inner western suburbs of Adelaide, drawing on an ethnically diverse population. A very active Italian community worships at Queen of Angels. There is Eucharistic Adoration/exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 12 noon Mass on Fridays.

The church is also home to the Syro-Malabar Indian Catholic Community.
